DJI Files a Formal Comment on FCC Docket 26-189: What Resellers Should Know
The comment window on the FCC's August 3 public notice closed on September 2. DJI submitted a detailed filing; press coverage of the docket describes overwhelming opposition. No order has been issued. Here is the reseller briefing we are giving customers this week.

What closed on September 2
The FCC's Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau and Office of Engineering and Technology asked whether the Commission should prohibit US import, marketing or sale of certain already authorized foreign-made UAS that the notice characterises as military-grade — typically discussed as thermal-imaging aircraft, LiDAR-equipped aircraft or components, and aircraft above 55 lb take-off weight. That is a separate question from the December 23, 2025 Covered List action, which only blocked new equipment authorizations.
The comment deadline was September 2, 2026. Closing the window does not change the law. Until an order is published, every model that was lawful to sell on September 1 remains lawful to sell.
What the record looks like
DJI filed a formal comment arguing that a retroactive sales restriction would strand public-safety, inspection and farm fleets, conflict with existing authorizations and exceed the notice's stated national-security rationale. Trade press covering the docket — including DroneLife's September 4 summary — describes the comments as overwhelmingly opposed. Filings are public on the FCC's ECFS.
Opposition is not a decision. The bureaus can still issue an order under delegated authority, with no statutory deadline. DJI has said it would challenge a final restriction in federal court.

- Thermal: DJI Matrice 4T, DJI Matrice 30T and Zenmuse H-series payloads.

Frequently Asked Questions
Did the FCC ban DJI thermal or LiDAR drones on September 2?
No. September 2 was only the close of the comment period on PS Docket 26-189. Previously authorized models remain legal to import, market and sell in the United States until the Commission issues an order — and none has been issued as of this article.
Should I delay a US Matrice 4T or Air 3S order?
If you have a grant deadline or a seasonal window, order the FCC-authorized model now. If a model's status changes between quote and payment, ASI Computer tells you before charging and offers an authorized alternative or a full refund.
Does this affect Canadian deliveries?
No. Canadian customers can still take delivery of the full current DJI range we list, including models we mark Canada-only because they never received US equipment authorization.
